Blank
After attending this special event and snagging Zibby's new book Blank, I flew through the novel. It's about Pippa, a fortyish former literary sensation, who is drawing a blank (get it?) about what to write next. She's facing an imminent deadline and comes up with an original idea that may work or may fail disastrously. While dealing with the myriad challenges of the publishing world as well as issues in her marriage, she's also juggling the day to day responsibilities of raising two kids, all while trying to keep up with friends.
I love the main character's voice; it's similar to Zibby's! Endearing, sharp, wise, witty. Even with some downer content (every book needs a problem), the storyline is fun, uplifting and compulsively readable. There are romantic parts that are enjoyable, as well as touching mom-kid dynamics. I also love the Jewish cultural aspects woven into the story.
Another hit by a wonderful writer (& person). Highly recommend.
