Bye, Baby
I recently read Bye, Baby, another addictive novel by local author Carola Lovering. I once again went to a nearby Q&A with the writer and fangirled awkwardly :) Bye, Baby is about two 35-year-old former besties who grew up together, and then grew apart. Billie and Cassie are now navigating life in NYC separately, currently with little in common, but Billie pines for their previous bond and will do anything to recreate a closeness with Cassie. The book is rife with icky moments, but there are redeeming character qualities as well.
As always, Lovering weaves in relatable details and (fortunately) unrelatable toxicity as well. Despite having to suffer through some disturbing content (TW: sexual assault), I kept reading; I needed to know the book's ending. This particular novel has some predictable twists but also some surprising parts, including the book’s conclusion. I am consistently impressed by Lovering's writing, and I’m looking forward to her next novel. Fingers crossed it's a little lighter.
