You've Got Mail

We don't have our card yet, so here's everyone's favorite holiday loving family The Griswolds.

I love to receive holiday cards. I love snail mail. I love hearing from my people. I love seeing the adorable pics and hand-picked designs. However, until this year, I've never sent them. In recent years I've sent baby announcements, and that's about it. I just didn't get my act together in time for the holidays. It seemed like a lot of work. I couldn't swing it. Now I want to start the tradition of sending cards. We're in a new phase of life, and I want to commence the practice. And it feels like a warm, fuzzy thing to do during weird, pandemic times.

I think back to being a kid and receiving one holiday card in particular, from my grandpa's cousin in California. He is someone we have spent time with in recent years, particularly leading up to our wedding in Wine Country. I didn't know him all that well when I was growing up. But he sent an annual photo collage of his family along with a typed letter outlining everyone's updates. This was before social media, and it brought us East Coasters up to speed, and made an impression. It endeared him and his fam to me. Sure, we have Instagram and Facebook newsfeeds now. But I'm looking forward to connecting via some good old fashioned snail mail.

Happy everything,
AES
