The Rachel Incident

I just finished this novel about a woman coming of age in Ireland during a financial crisis. Ron Charles of The Washington Post summed up the book succinctly: "The Rachel Incident offers a tender reflection on those 20-something friendships that leave a permanent imprint….One of the many lovable things about this novel is O’Donoghue’s kindhearted perspective on the awkwardness of the college years….Profoundly satisfying….O’Donoghue has found a way to tell this story in scenes both heartbreaking and funny."

By sharing the intimate details of Rachel's life, author Caroline O'Donoghue tackles larger issues of economic recession, sexuality and reproductive freedom. Well-written and with surprising twists, I highly recommend giving this book a go.
