The best Christmas movies you've never heard of
This year, starting on Christmas Eve Eve I scrambled to watch all of my favorite Xmas movies. I put on Scrooged, and I had high hopes for watching It's a Wonderful Life next. However, within ten minutes of starting Scrooged, Hubs fell asleep on the couch. I proceeded to watch the movie and I realized my feelings for the Bill Murray classic have changed. It's so loud and violent. I didn't even finish it. Come Christmas Eve I was ready for some new films. I did a little research and happened upon two winners: Christmas in Connecticut and The Ref.
They both happen to take place in my new home state of CT. And they're both funny and cute and perfect for the holidays. The Ref is a little darker, but it's super 90's and super entertaining. It stars Denis Leary and Kevin Spacey and it's about a bickering couple getting kidnapped. (It's light and funny, I promise!) Christmas in Connecticut is an oldie but goodie 1945 rom com about a young journalist who's been faking her domestic prowess in her magazine columns. She gets called upon to show off her hostess skills and hilarious hijinks ensue.
We also watched another new (to me) gem over the long weekend: The Man Who Came to Dinner. Hubs had seen this 1942 comedy years ago and remembered it fondly. It absolutely holds up. Hubs and I were giggling nonstop and not from all our red wine.
Merry merry,
