Surprise Banana Cake

I try not to buy too much junk these days but I do indulge my sweet tooth a bit, lately with chocolate chip cookies and dark chocolate peanut butter cups. My kids love their treats, too. And they love to bake. Over the holidays I decided to turn lemons into lemonade and use our overripe bananas for homemade banana cake.

Banana cake is the most underrated dessert out there. When we were little my brothers and I loved the Entenmann's Banana Crunch Cake. (Much to my dismay, it seems to have been discontinued.) As a baby Liv loved bananas, so for her first b-day her cake was banana with vanilla frosting.

The recipe the fam and I used recently is here. We cut the cake into thirds and made a plain piece, a portion with chocolate frosting and a slice with vanilla icing. The winner was chocolate. It reminded me of my beloved Banana Crunch Cake.

While we baked Liv said, "Mommy you should put this on your website and say 'baking banana cake with your girls.'” As you wish, my dear.
