A cool thing happened the other day. I wrote this blog post about feeling burned out. That night, as I was cleaning the kitchen and listening to Martha Beck, as one does, Beck's IGTV answered my unintentional prayers. Beck laid out a formula for finding motivation. And she even referenced building a fire! (Get it? Burned out?) In Beck's video she answered my subconscious inquiry: Help me find inspiration during a super draining time.

In her video Beck explained what inspiration means (literally: to breathe in) and she gave instructions for finding it when it's elusive. Her recipe included 3 ingredients, just as is required for making a fire (AKA the "fire triangle"):

FUEL for fire making translates to other people. In non-Covid times, see them, take classes with them. And/or in current times: read articles and books by smart people. Watch riveting shows. Consume media that makes your heart sing.

HEAT translates to taking care of yourself. Do a lovingkindness meditation, take a bath, get cozy under a weighted blanket, convince your partner to give you a foot massage. Make your body feel at home.

OXYGEN translates to living your truth. Do what feels right for you. Don't agree to a Zoom party or something that you're not up for. Don't do something because your socialization requires it. Do what feels in alignment with you.

Stay toasty,
AES
