Under the Radar and Streaming

Shrinking

What to watch, besides Succession of course...

Unstable
Why isn't anyone talking about Unstable, the newish Netflix show created by and starring my beloved Rob Lowe? In Unstable my guy is joined by his son and the two play... father and son. Rob's character is a biotech genius and all around ridiculous but lovable guy. His son is more grounded and the two have an adorable, sparring-in-jest relationship. The elder Lowe's character is grieving his deceased wife and also trying to save his company, Dragon. Dragon's employees are charming and quite funny. Overall delightful series.

Shrinking
This is another under the radar show that is highly entertaining and enjoyable, save for some dark parts including, again, the grieving widower storyline. Why is that the go to plot these days? Similar to Unstable, this show has many comedic parts as well as touching scenes. Jason Segal plays the protagonist-in-mourning, Jimmy. He's a therapist and he decides to try out some nontraditional tactics with his patients. Jimmy's mentor is played by the revered Harrison Ford. Other characters include Jimmy's teenage daughter, his frenemy neighbor and his estranged best friend. It's an amusing crew, and the series is well done. One scene in particular is so brilliant and touching, thinking back to it now I'm heartwarmed. If you watch, I want to know if you cry, too. (It's the one where Harrison Ford's character goes on a trip.. an actual trip, not a drug trip :)

Watch it and weep,
AES
