The Golden Couple
I recently read The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. Oops. Why do I keep accidentally reading thrillers? In my defense the back cover endorsements didn't make any mention of the words "thriller," "creepy" etc. However I just peeked inside the interior front cover and, alas, Reader's Digest did call The Golden Couple "the next Gone Girl." Reader's Digest has a point. The Golden Couple is suspenseful and a total page turner. I'm just realizing that I personally need to stick to lighter content, at least for now.
The Golden Couple centers on wealthy DC area couple Marissa and Matthew Bishop who start counseling after she commits a marital transgression. Their therapist is dealing with her own issues and also favors unorthodox methods in her treatment.
There are some holes but overall the novel is smart and sufficiently twisty. The authors kept me on my toes and kept me awake at night. However, similar to Leaving, I felt the need to just get through The Golden Couple. I wanted to reach the resolution and move on. Going forward I'd much prefer to read less scary novels; I want to read books I can enjoy savoring.
Enter: Summer Romance, the novel I just started, which is definitely more my current speed. Stay tuned for my review.
