Science Fiction

The last two books I read have nothing in common save for the scientific overtones of their titles: Atomic Habits and Lessons In Chemistry. Both were page turners, the former being a pleasant surprise as nonfiction doesn't usually keep me all that captivated. Atomic Habits is the exception to the rule apparently.

Atomic Habits is all about, you guessed it, small habits. Author James Clear presents "an easy & proven way to build good habits & break bad ones." The book is eye opening and full of scientific data explained in layman's terms. It's more than a "how to" for habits; it provides sage life advice and borders on spiritual at times. I dogeared just about every other page. Atomic Habits is my new manual.

Lessons in Chemistry is a novel about a female chemist and single mother in the 1960's. Writer Bonnie Garmus weaves an intricate tale about protagonist Elizabeth Zott, her beau, their families and careers. The novel is a downer at times and speaks loudly to the injustices women faced back in the day. Excellent book, but not one of my top picks as of late.
