Kiss and Makeup
I've always been a minimalist when it comes to makeup. I learned about makeup from Aunt Becky on Full House: it shouldn't look like you're wearing any, she said to D.J. I wore very little, if any, in high school. My first cosmetics purchase was the Bobbi Brown Taupe eye shadow - basically the same color as my eyelids. I tried mascara for the first time in college, thanks to my roommate who was a pro. After college when I lived in Chicago, my bestie was literally a makeup artist and did my makeup all the time. Best glam of my life.
When I apply makeup now it's bare bones: just tinted moisturizer with SPF for daytime during the week. If I go out at night I add a little blush and mascara, sometimes bronzer and/or eyeliner. Another thing I have been adding recently for nights out and events is lipstick. It's fun. It also makes me think of my Grandma Elly who always touched up her lipstick after a dinner out, at the table, using a shiny compact for reflection. Now my four year old loves applying it too, the brighter and messier the better. She loves getting all dolled up with fancy clothes and accessories. The other day she told my MIL via FaceTime that I was "putting on makeup and jewels."
At a wedding recently I did a combo of nude lipsticks (OK not super adventurous but still, mixing it up!) and my friend asked for recommendations. I gave her a handful and she went with Nars Dolce Vita. We were both wearing it when we met for dinner the other night. And we both reapplied at the table after eating, just like our grandmas.
Here are the nude-ish lipsticks I'm into currently:
Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk
Kosas Undone
Nars Bad Girl
Nars Dolce Vita
