Good trumps Bad

The other day Hubs and I were talking about the election and Liv asked why we don't like the current president. My mind raced, my chest heavied, my stomach turned. Like many, I have visceral reactions just thinking about the myriad reasons why Trump is awful. I didn't know where to begin, nor how to translate my feelings and rationale to a very bright, but appropriately naive, five year old.

Hubs swooped in and summed it up pretty succinctly and effectively: "Trump only cares about himself, not the greater American people. And that is the opposite of how a leader should be." Nailed it.

In general, there are so many shades of grey. The older and, dare I say, wiser I get, the more complex and nuanced every situation seems. In so many scenarios there is no good vs. bad, just degrees of morality and varying unique perceptions. But the 2020 presidential race isn't one of those "grey areas." This is about good vs. bad. Democratic vs. totalitarian. Allowing people to exercise their right to vote vs. voter suppression. Free speech vs. censorship. Tolerance vs. bigotry. Equality vs. abuse. Civility vs. bullying. Humane vs. cruel. Peace vs. violence. Health vs. disease. Environmental sustainability vs. earth's demise. Truth vs. blatant lies. The list goes on and one.

This is so beyond politics. And taxes. This is beyond Biden. I've read about people not feeling inspired by Biden. So what? He's a decent human being and he's not the malignant narcissist option. You're choosing right vs. wrong, our country over Trump's personal gains. Trump is dividing our nation and rallying domestic terrorism, among other atrocities. Again, the sickening list goes on and on. I can't explain all of this to my daughters now, but I can vote. Our children will ask us, now and in the future, who did you choose? What did you stand for? Seems like a no brainer to choose the guy who cares about the country vs. the guy who cares about only himself.

Rock the vote,
AES
