Black Lives Matter
My heart breaks over the atrocities against black people recently (and throughout history). I’ve been laying awake at night, haunted by George Floyd and all of the other recent devastating murders of black men and women. I can't imagine the sleeplessness and despair of people of color right now (and always).
As I jogged along the Hoboken waterfront the other day, I passed by people of all ages, colors, ethnicities. It was heart-warming and heart-breaking at the same time. People of color risk their lives just being out in the world. I passed by a black family, an adorable little boy in a red shirt. I tried to put myself in his mother's shoes and I just lost it, crying into my mask as I jogged. But my sympathy does nothing to help.
As a white privileged woman, I have a lot more to learn and do. I don’t know the right thing to say, but that is not a reason to remain silent. Silence is complicity. I am anti-racist, and I have work to do. There is a lot of information circling right now. Below I am including some action items for white people. It’s not enough, but it’s a start.
