Best Kids Books - As of Late

My older daughter Liv is a night owl like me. She sneaks books into her bed and "reads" them until 11pm. She's four.

We read lots of books in our home. I'm clearly a book lover and I hope to pass this one habit down to my girls. I will buy books over toys any day. I'd do it anyway, but it doesn't hurt to hear research like this.

We used to read to Liv around the clock. At bedtime of course, but also just hanging out, during meals, etc. Now that we have little Mia as well, things are a bit more chaotic and not as conducive to leisure reading, but we squeeze in storybooks whenever we can. Here are our current favorites:

1. Cool Bean
My coworker gifted me with Cool Bean (along with a Starbucks gift card, thank you) for our team "Secret Snowflake" gift exchange. He crushed it. My colleagues know I'm a book lover and that I'm working on writing my own children's book as well. I'll take all the gifts for my kids/my own writing inspiration I can. And this particular book is a hit. Liv made me read it three times the night I brought it home.

2. First 100 Words Board Book
My younger daughter Mia's favorite and first book she really interacted with. She points to the pajamas and then her own PJ's, the book's crib and then her own. She makes the most adorable sounding "choo choo" and arm motion for the train image. And the chunky, soft book is indestructible.

3. I Took the Moon for a Walk
I bought this when Liv was a baby and read it every night until she chose otherwise. It's such a sweet tale about following the moon (or vice versa). We're moon lovers in this family, Liv getting so excited to spot it rising above the city skyline. I'm a sucker for astrology. Liv even has pale pink moon prints in her room.

4. All The World
I have so much love for this little, lyrical book. I bought it from The Corner Bookstore when I was pregnant with Mia and trekking to the Upper East Side for ultrasounds at Mount Sinai. Hubs and I even browsed in the same charming bookshop when I was in *active* labor with Mia, passing time before being admitted to the hospital. The book's message is so sweet and the pictures are warm and fuzzy.

5. Corduroy
A favorite of both Liv and Mia. Liv used to call it "Cordur-boy." I mean - could you just? Now Mia is a big fan and loves pointing to me when she sees the mommy in the book. It's a classic that will always be on our bookshelves. Well, at least for the next few years.
