Becoming x2
I just finished the book Becoming, and before that Becoming Duchess Goldblatt.
Becoming Duchess Goldblatt is such a unique read. It's a memoir written by an anonymous author about her foray into creating an online persona, Duchess Goldblatt, who garnered a popular Twitter presence and cult-following. Duchess Goldblatt is an eighty-one year old "cultural icon, trophy ex-wife, friend to all humanity." The author is a divorced mother who is bright, clearly creative, and had a relatively rough upbringing. Her writing is excellent. The book is absorbing and well-done.
Becoming, Michelle Obama's bestselling memoir, is a must-read. It's deep, insightful, educational, wise. Obama writes about her childhood on Chicago's South Side, her experiences at Princeton and Harvard, her career paths and, of course, her relationship with Barack and their years in the White House. Becoming is rich with history and details. I learned so much about Michelle, naturally, but also about Barack's trajectory to the presidency. I've always loved Barack, but now I know how truly qualified he was to be President. Man do I miss him. And man do I miss Michelle.

P.S. I even read some of Becoming aloud to Liv on the beach in Florida. She was particularly into Malia's prom experience. And it was a great opportunity to talk about the first black president, first lady and family.
