Back to School
What to watch after Hacks? Ted Lasso, of course. And in between Fridays, the day on which Ted Lasso episodes are released, a new gem: The Chair.
Another show not one other person has mentioned, but a good one. The series, co-written by Amanda Peet and starring Sandra Oh, is about a newly appointed university chair (Oh as Ji-Yoon Kim). The show centers on Kim inheriting a flailing English department, her relationships both personal and professional, cancel culture and more. It's smart, current and comical.
The series also makes me nostalgic for college campus life. I was more focused on socializing than really getting the collegiate experience during my time at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. I did, somehow, get accepted into the School of Journalism at UW and had an enriching experience in my J-School classes. But in retrospect, I should've done more to immerse myself in the greater campus cultural experiences. At some point in my life I do want to spend more time at a university, take more classes, maybe even eventually teach. But for now, The Chair is satisfying my thirst for higher ed.
